This document describes the installation process and the
system requirements for the VACSIM simulator.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-------------------

Processor: 386, 486 or Pentium.

Co-processor: For the 386 and 486 a DX chip or co-processor
               is strongly recommended.

Operating Windows NT V3.5 and upwards.
systems: Windows 95.
Windows 3.1x (Windows 3.1, Windows for
Workgroups 3.11) with File Sharing enabled
               (SHARE.EXE), running WIN32s. The WIN32s
components are included with the alternative
version of Vacsim that can be downloaded from
	       the web site.

Memory: RAM: 8MB minimum.
Total: RAM plus Windows Virtual Memory: 12MB
               minimum.

Disk: 7MB minimum.
VACSIM requires 1MB, WIN32S (if needed)
               requires 2MB. The PowerPoint viewer
(if downloaded) requires up to 2MB
and the VACSIM PowerPoint slide show requires
               2MB.

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
--------------------

The default configurations for Windows NT and Windows 95
should support VACSIM without modification.

The following steps are required if installing under
Windows 3.1x.

Ensure that file sharing is enabled on your system. This is
usually achieved by calling SHARE.EXE from within your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

Set up virtual memory. From the Windows Control Panel, select
the 386 Enhanced program and set up the Virtual Memory so that
the total of Virtual Memory and Physical Memory is 12MB or
greater. Note: If you are using a compressed drive, the
additional Virtual Memory must be on an uncompressed host
drive.

You can find out the current total memory by selecting
Help/About Program Manager from the Program Manager's menu.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
----------------------

After unzipping, VACSIM will exist as a collection of compressed
files. In order to install the software on your system, you must
run the Windows Program Manager and from the Program Manager's
File menu command select Run. In the Command Line edit box
type: DirectoryName\INSTALL (where DirectoryName is directory
in which the unzipped files have been placed). For Windows 95
the Run command line is selected from the Start menu.

The INSTALL program will display a small window in which you
can enter the name of the directory into which you wish to
place the VACSIM software, and the name of the Program Group
into which the software executables and help will be
placed. The defaults for these are: "C:\VACSIM" and "Vacsim"
respectively.

The install directory must not already exist on your system.
If it does, the INSTALL program will prompt you to enter a new
directory name. This restriction is imposed to prevent
accidental overwriting of existing files.

If the program group name already exists, the INSTALL program
will add VACSIM's program items to it. If it does not already
exist, it will be created.

Once you select OK to install VACSIM, you will not be able to
stop the installation until all VACSIM files are decompressed.

When the installation is finished, the compressed files may be
safely deleted.

INSTALLING THE DONGLE AND CODEWORD
----------------------------------

VACSIM will run in demonstration mode without a dongle, but to
run it with all its features enabled you must install a
dongle in the parallel printer port of your computer.

Once the dongle, its device driver and a valid codeword are
installed, you will be able to use all VACSIM functions for
the duration of your licence.
